EASTERN REGION COUNCILLORS

As from the AGM held in June 2006 the number of elected councillors increased from 9 to 12. Under the constitution the number of elected councillors must be more than the number of voting representatives and non-elected officers (Treasurer, RYLO, PRO) by a maximum of three votes.
On Eastern Region we have six DA’s, two voting sections and the three officers mentioned above. This means we can have the possibility of a regional council consisting of 23 voting members.
For this year one of the office holders has been co-opted onto Regional council for one year. The number of elected councillors must also be divisible by three, as the standard term is 3 years.

From the 2007 AGM the regional councillors have the following time remaining on council.

For the 2008 elections of councillors we will need to establish a situation where we have 4 councillors posts vacant each year. To get the process back on line we will have the following vacancies
                                    4 Councillors for 3 years
                                    1 Councillor for 1 year

All Councillors when they finish their term are eligible to stand for re-election.
